Computing & ICT

At St Monica‚Äôs we have dedicated computing lessons each week and we also use technology and computing skills to support other lessons across the curriculum.

In our Computing lessons we learn:

STAYING SAFE: all aspects of e-safety, taught at an age-appropriate level using a variety of online and other resources. This is the agreement that all our pupils must sign at the start of each year, to make sure we all stay safe and work well together. Pupils Acceptable Use of ICT Policy

CODING: How to write and debug algorithms (computer code) using the Discovery Education (Espresso) Coding scheme, and in upper Key Stage 2, being introduced to Python and HTML

DIGITAL SKILLS AND CREATING CONTENT: a variety of skills show in the skills ladder (link below), using both Microsoft, Google Suite for Education and iPads.

TYPING and TOUCH TYPING: In Key Stage 1 the children become familiar with the keyboard, moving on to teaching touch typing at the end of year 2 through to year 4 and beyond.

The computing skills ladder shows the range of skills the children learn in each year group, building on skills previously developed.

We also make use of a variety of online learning tools to assist with Maths and English. For example, we use MyMaths, Times Tables Rockstars, IDL, and Read Theory.
