World Book Day 2024

This week we have shared with other schools nationally in celebrating the love and joy of reading. We are passionate here at St Monica's in supporting every pupil to not only learn to read, but to find what they love about reading and support them in developing habits for a lifetime. In each of our classrooms the children have a reading area where books are shared, recommended, in most cases they have space to sit and read, and the joy of reading is celebrated. All teachers share with the children what they are reading at the moment themselves, and time is dedicated to reading for pleasure.

Our World Book Day Celebrations began on Wednesday. Year 5 took part in a Q&A session with Darren Shan (a successful writer most famous for his Darren Shan series). He talked about his novels and read one of his texts to the class-he was so engaging! Afterwards, the children asked him some great questions about his writing.

A special thank you must go to our wonderful Year 6 Librarians who work tirelessly during their break times to keep our Library so tidy. Your hard work is appreciated by all the staff and children.

Loving to learn,
learning to love like Jesus
