Mental Health and Wellbeing
Supporting positive mental health and wellbeing
At St Monica's Catholic Primary School, we encourage and promote positive mental health and wellbeing. There are a number of ways this is woven through the curriculum, and our assembly rota across the year.
myHappymind
We are proud to be a myHappymind school, utilising this whole school programme which is grounded in science and dedicated to building positive mental wellbeing, proactively teaching topics including learning about how the brain works, considering our character strengths, setting goals and developing a habit of gratitude. myHappymind teaches the children how to self-regulate and manage their emotions in stressful times, allowing them to be their best selves.
"This programme combines the latest research, science and technology to help children develop lifelong habits and learn to thrive."

Tasty Tuck award
We take part in the Warrington Borough Council initiative, 'Tasty Tuck Award' which promotes healthy snacks and drinks in between meal times, thus supporting good oral healthcare.
For more information on services in Warrington to support health and wellbeing, visit the Living Well hub, or the Healthy Families website.
Forest School
Every year group at St Monica's takes part in forest school sessions at some point through the year. One of the major benefits of forest school is the time spent learning outdoors, whatever the weather. Pupils give positive feedback that they find forest school supports their positive mental health.
Nurture support
At St Monica's we have a triage system for staff to refer pupils who have support needs around SEMH (social, emotional, mental health). Our in-house triage enables our Senior Mental Health Lead to direct class teachers to the right resources to support, or to refer to our own 'nurture' sessions, or to the Warrington Schools Link practitioner (for mental health support in schools).
Our Senior Mental Health Lead in school is Miss C Williams.
